GeoTIFF images of gridded near-bottom bathymetry data for the distal rift zones of Axial Seamount, version: December, 2025
These GeoTIFF raster images of near-bottom bathymetry are all slope-shaded, hence "slope" in the file names, and were generated with the Haxby color ramp for several depth ranges as indicated by the depth range in each file name. These "AxialDistalRiftZones" GeoTIFF images were made from a grid of 1-m lateral resolution processed swath bathymetry data compiled from data collected on surveys of the distal North and South Rift Zones at Axial Seamount between 2011 and 2021 by the MBARI Mapping AUVs (MAUV1 and MAUV2). The files are in WGS-1984 geographic coordinates, with square cells for use with GIS. This data set is as published in Paduan et al., 2026, Voluminous Inflated Lobate Flows on the Distal Rift Zones of Axial Seamount, Juan de Fuca Spreading Ridge, in Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. The MBARI AUV bathymetry coverage of the distal rift zones is not likely to change in the near future, but this data set should still be considered a work in progress. The navigation model underlying this version of bathymetry was generated in 2025 using the MB-System mbnavadjust program, with which the AUV surveys are tied together. Funding for the work was provided through annual grants to MBARI from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
