Marine Geoscience Data System
MGL1521 Bathymetry
Santorini Region Multibeam Synthesis, 2015
This bathymetry synthesis covers the Santorini-Christiana-Amorgos backarc region of the Hellenic subduction zone. The data were collected during the 2015 PROTEUS cruise on R/V Langseth that had the goal of imaging the magma plume structure of the Santorini volcanic system. The PROTEUS experiment deployed a dense array of ocean-bottom and land seismometers that recorded the marine sound source from the ship. The multibeam synthesis was generated by merging hull-mounted EM122 multibeam data collected during the PROTEUS cruise (MGL1521 cruise DOI: 10.7284/906516) with pre-existing data from near the coast and within the caldera of Santorini. Those data sets are from Nomikou et al., 2012 (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gloplacha.2012.01.001) and Nomikou et al., 2013 (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tecto.2012.10.001). The file presented here is in GMT-compatible netCDF grid format, with a horizontal resolution of 115m. The raw PROTEUS multibeam data is available at: https://www.marine-geo.org/tools/search/entry.php?id=MGL1521. Funding was provided by National Science Foundation award OCE14-59794.
