Sediment Core Images from samples acquired as part of the Long Island Sound Mapping Project Phase II
Images of the sediment cores collected as part of the Long Island Sound mapping project Phase II. The images were taken of on split cores at the Lamont core repository using the Itrax imaging system and converted to jpeg. The images have been cropped to fit closely to the core extent. Sediment cores provide information on changes in the sediment environments over time including periods of deposition or erosion, as well as changes in chemical composition with time. Detailed images of the sediment cores provide information on layering and visual changes and disturbances along the core. This information is guiding the sediment environment interpretation. Funding was provided by the Long Island Sound Mapping Fund administered cooperatively by the EPA Long Island Sound Study and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
