CostaRica_CORK Pressure, Temperature
Hole 1253A CORK borehole observatory pressure and seafloor temperature time series from the Costa Rica Subduction Zone
These pressure and temperature time series were retrieved from a CORK-II borehole observatory, 1253A, off Costa Rica. The CORK-II instruments comprised an RBR Ltd data logger and Paroscientific pressure sensors, model 8B-7000-2. The data files are in ASCII format and contain pressure values measured at 10 minute intervals at the seafloor and at two levels in the formation, and temperature values measured hourly at the seafloor. Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Hole 1253A is located in the subducting Cocos plate just seaward of the subduction prism toe. Installations were completed in 2002 during ODP Leg 205 (Morris et al., 2003). The pressure data file contains the following columns: date (yy/mm/dd), time (UTC), S1 (kPa), S2 (kPa), SF (kPa). The temperature data file contains the following columns: date (yy/mm/dd), time (UTC), counts, temperature (°C). For information about clock checks, data disruptions and hydrostatic corrections, please refer to the associated document called "CRM_CORKs_ExplanatoryNotes.pdf". The data set was generated as part of the projects called "Long-term Continuous Monitoring of Pressure, Fluid Chemistry, and Hydrology in Instrumented Boreholes at the Costa Rica Subduction Zone" and "Discovery, sampling, and quantification of flows from cool yet massive ridge-flank hydrothermal springs on Dorado Outcrop, eastern Pacific Ocean". Funding for this work was provided by NSF awards OCE01-18478 and OCE11-30146 and DFG grant number VI 133/4-2.
