P-wave velocity models (netCDF format) of the eastern Chain median ridge using multi-channel seismic refraction data from the 2018 ILAB-SPARC cruise
The data set contains P-wave velocity models in netCDF format for ILAB-SPARC profiles ILAB-SP05 and ILAB-SP08 running parallel and perpendicular to the eastern Chain median ridge in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean, respectively. Details about the velocity model building are given in the accompanying file ILAB_SPARC_tomo.pdf. The variables in the netCDF files are as follows: (1) velocity: A 2-D array of size 1621 (horizontal) × 141 (vertical) for ILAB-SP05 and 841 × 141 for ILAB-SP08 describing a P-wave velocity model discretised on a uniform grid of 50 m × 50 m with velocity value at each node in km/s. Velocities outside of the region traversed by the rays are masked and are given values -9999.0. (2) depth: A 1-D array of vertical depths below the sea surface (in km) in the 2-D velocity model grid. (3) distance: A 1-D array horizontal distance along the profiles (in km) in the 2-D velocity model grid. (4) lat: A 2-D array containing the latitude (in decimal degrees north) for each node in the 2-D velocity model grid. (5) lon: A 2-D array containing the longitude (in decimal degrees east) for each node in the 2-D velocity model grid. The data was generated as part of the project called Imaging Lithosphere Asthenosphere Boundary–St. Paul, Romanche and Chain (ILAB-SPARC). The ILAB-SPARC cruise was funded by the European Research Council Advanced grant no. 339442 TransAtlanticILAB awarded to Dr. Satish Singh.
