Santa Monica 800 m Mound MBARI Low Altitude Survey System near-bottom photomosaic at 1 cm resolution (2018)
This processed photomosaic of the actively-seeping Santa Monica 800 m Mound offshore of Southern California is in GeoTIFF format with 1 cm pixel resolution, and in geographic coordinates. This data set was collected with the MBARI Low Altitude Survey System (LASS) on four ROV Ventana dives in 2018, missions 20180516d1, 20180517d1, 20180518d1, and 20180519d1(investigators David Caress, Charles K. Paull, Eve Lundsten, Jennifer Paduan). The photomosaic was constructed from individual photos taken with the right-side Prosilica color camera illuminated with strobe lights while the ROV was flown at 0.2 m/s with a 3-m stand-off from the seafloor. Using the pose of the camera and the stereo rig calibration model, prioritized pixels were projected onto the 5-cm-scale topography model from the LASS multibeam bathymetry. Funding was provided by a grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to MBARI.
