Processed multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data from the southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 50.2°S-51.5°S (RR2301, 2023)
A bathymetric survey was completed using a Kongsberg EM124 echosounder along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and its flanks between 50.2 and 51.5°S during the February 2023 R/V Roger Revelle cruise RR2301 (Chief Scientist: Tamara Russell). Survey lines were acquired at a typical vessel speed of ~9 kt (~4.6 m/s), with tracks spaced ~12 km to provide almost 100% bathymetric coverage. Adverse sea conditions during data acquisition caused a considerable number of ping artifacts due to vessel motion, which were removed manually on shore using QPS Qimera software. The final bathymetric and acoustic backscatter amplitude grids were constructed using MB-System software at 100 m x 100 m node spacing. The grids are in GMT-compatible netCDF format and are named as "ZTopo" for the bathymetry grid and "ZAmpC" for the acoustic backscatter grid. The survey was supported by the University of California Ship Funds program.
