SR1806 Gravity:Anomaly:MantleBouguer, Gravity:Anomaly:MantleBouguerResidual, Interpretation:Geologic, LayerThickness:Crust
Processed gravity data (netCDF format) at the Cocos-Nazca spreading center from cruise SR1806 (2018)
Mantle Bouguer anomaly (MBA) was calculated by removing the gravitational effects of the water-crust and crust-mantle interfaces from the Free-air anomaly (FAA), assuming water, crust, and mantle densities of 1.03 × 10^3, 2.7 × 10^3, and 3.3 × 10^3 kg m^-3, respectively, and using a 6-km thick reference crust. Residual Mantle Bouguer anomaly (RMBA) was calculated by subtracting age-dependent thermal model from the MBA. The end-member model of the crustal thickness model here was calculated by the downward continuation of the RMBA to a depth of 10 km by assuming that the RMBA is controlled only by variations in crustal thickness. Free-air anomaly (FAA) was generated by combining the shipboard FAA data from cruise SR1806 with global satellite FAA data from Sandwell et al. (2014). The lithosphere cooling effect (i.e., thermal model) is estimated by assuming a 1-D half space plate cooling model. The data files are in GMT-compatible netCDF grid format. All data were gridded at 1-arc-second node spacing. The gravity calculation region is from 105°W to 95°W and 1°S to 5°N, but we suggest using data within 104°W to 96°W and 0 to 4°N to avoid boundary effects.
