This is the first sampling dive of the Climate Connections at the Ice-Sea Interface cruise. We will be sampling at the northern end of the Ronne Entrance (Station 7) at a bottom depth of 500-700m. In this area the topography shows various features created by the movement of icebergs and the growth and retreat of the ice shelf. The objectives of this dive will be to collect both biological and geological samples. The geological samples will include both sediment push cores and rock samples. The biological samples will include sediment samples for both macro- and meiofauna, and samples of various groups of epibenthic macrofauna, including specifically corals and sea cucumbers. Video
transects will also be made to characterise the benthic communities of the area.

This dive of the Climate Connections at the Ice-Sea Interface cruise will explore a newly exposed area of the seabed. This has given us the incredible opportunity to explore an area of the seabed that was only recently covered with the ice shelf. This, the first of a series of dives in the area, will start at a depth of 1250 m up to 780 m, with the objective of collecting biological and geological
samples with the ROV SuBastian. The geological samples will include both sediment push cores and rock samples. The biological samples will include sediment samples for both macro- and meiofauna, and samples of various groups of epibenthic macrofauna, including specifically corals and sea cucumbers. Video transects will also be made to characterize the benthic communities of the area.
