1. M3 mapping: 2000 m westward survey along ridge, 300 m wide survey at 50 m altitude. Estimated ~8 hours duration. 2. Eastward transect along seafloor back towards start of dive area. 3. INSAS calibration survey (PENDING) Dive Objectives: 1. Create a full coverage M3 map of entire dive area 2. Visual surveys and sampling of hydrothermal related features on the seafloor (sampling details outlined below.). includes a photomosaic survey towards end of dive. 3. INSAS calibration survey on pre-configured patch test survey geometry followed by two 300 m lines (separated by 80 m) Start of eastward visual survey will likely encounter inactive venting sites. Low-temperature venting is known to occur at the eastern limit of the transect.

Dive Description: 1. M3 mapping - Continuous survey over ridge - 50 m altitude - ~10 hours 2. InSAS mapping 3. Sampling/Imaging Dive Activities/ Objectives: 1. Magnetometer calibration 2. Create a full coverage M3 map of entire dive area 3. Test InSAS with two parallel survey lines. If adequately flat terrain is identified in M3 data, a patch test will also be run. 4. Visual surveys and sampling of hydrothermal related features on the seafloor (sampling details outlined below. Survey will be 300 m E-W lines, spaced 50 m apart. Start in the NW, working southward, then translate to the east, continue northward, then translate west again and work southward. All waypoints attached. Low-T plume: trigger 1x 2.5L Niskin as close to source of plume as possible Hydrothermal precipitates: collect sulfide/oxide/highly-altered basalt rock samples (into coral quivers (priority swing arm quivers). Volcanic rocks: collect blue andesite (grab a few samples, into one biobox) IF high-T sulfides present, also collect 2x 5L niskins near vents (but not necessarily in plume) Skate Eggs: (carefully!!) into biobox Collect vent animals: Riftia (just a couple), clams, mussels, limpets, shrimp (all can go into one biobox for each site; except shrimp into suction sampler). Sediment push cores: opportunistic; tall core, biology core and geology core taken at every coring site. (NOTE: push core set “3” have core catchers Corals: Scleracyonacea (whole), Malacalcyonacea (fragment) Sponges: Opportunistic and if space is available.

Dive will be divided in to 6-hour blocks of alternating SAS mapping and sampling: 15:00 Launch 16:30 Hydrophone deployment at seafloor 17:00 SAS Mapping 23:00 Sampling (Iguanas W) 03:00 Lander recovery (by ship at surface) 04:00 SAS Mapping 10:00 Sampling (Iguanas E and W) 15:00 ROV Off bottom Primary activities on this dive include: 1. Deployment of DAL hydrophone lander near active vents at Iguanas East a. Lander will be carried to the seafloor by the ROV and placed at the foot of the active black smoker complex b. Once during the InSAS surveys, the position of the lander will be moved ~100 m by the ROV c. Lander ascent is set for 12 hours after launch. Lander will ascend to surface for recovery by ship while ROV remains at seafloor. 2. InSAS mapping a. Continuous survey over ridge for ~ 6 hours of bottom time i. Interrupted once for repositioning of hydrophone lander b. Waypoints provided in .csv file c. Constant depth within altitude range of 12-30 m d. More SAS mapping after 6 hours of sampling 3. Imaging and sampling of active vents at Iguanas West a. Similar to previous dives (see details below) b. Two blocks of time (after SAS surveys)

Dive Activities/ Objectives: 1. Magnetometer calibration. 2. M3 mapping a. Additional couple of lines to the data collected during S0614 b. Mapping of new area to the west of the area surveyed during S0614 3. Explore targets identified in the mapping a. Particularly interested in active and inactive hydrothermal vents b. Sampling limited to rock, sediments, and coral sampling c. Photogrammetry transects 300 m away from vents, if any new active vents are discovered Difficult to provide a more detailed plan for the sampling part of the dive as it will depend on what features we find during the M3 survey.
