Seafloor gravity measurements across the TAG Hydrothermal Mound on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (1994)
This data set consists of a series of 11 gravity measurements, made on the seafloor across the TAG hydrothermal mound on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge near 26N, 45W. Data were collected in 1994 as part of the 1994 R/V Yokosuka cruise called MODE-94 (chief scientist was Kantaro Fujioka). The measurements were made using a Scintrex CG-3 Autograv system installed inside the Japanese Shinkai 6500 submersible. Details of the data and their analysis can be found in Evans (1996). A full inversion of the data alongside a newly-collected magnetics data set can be found in Galley et al. (2021). The data were first levelled using the northern-most station as a reference point, then processed to develop the free-water anomaly. The forward signal of a background model built with 2m resolution bathymetric data of the seafloor about the mound, with density 2.4 g/cm3 (Evans, 1996), was then removed to produce the Bouguer anomaly data included in the file. The data file is in ASCII tab-separated format with seven columns: Longitude, Latitude, Easting [meters, UTM zone 23N], Northing [meters, UTM zone 23N], Elevation [meters], Bouguer Anomaly [mGal], Raw Data [mGal].
