Marine Geoscience Data System
PNG16 Magnetic:Field
Deep-tow total magnetic field data collected over the south-eastern corner of the East Manus Basin, Bismarck Sea, 2016-2017.
This data set consists of processed total magnetic field data collected with an Applied Physics Systems 534D Fluxgate magnetometer attached to a deep-tow sled system towed behind the cruise vessel. A total of 69 survey lines were collected, oriented along N36E, and covered a roughly 44x24 km area encompassing the Tumai and Bugave Ridges, as well as the Kaia Natai volcano. The data file is written in the TetGen ASCII NODE format (https://wias-berlin.de/software/tetgen/fformats.node.html) with the following columns: point_index, UTM x (m), UTM y (m), elevation (m), total magnetic field (nT). The UTM zone is 56M, with a reference meridian of 153 degrees E. The IGRF is not removed from the total magnetic field data column. All data were collected by Nautilus Minerals from December 2016 to March 2017, in collaboration with the Mineral Resources Authority of Papua New Guinea. The cruise was funded by Nautilus Minerals.
