Marine Geoscience Data System
EW9709 Seismic:Active:Subbottom
3.5 kHz subbottom seismic data in the eastern Pacific Ocean, acquired during the R/V Maurice Ewing survey EW9709 (1997)
Part of a joint project between the University of Michigan and Boise State University (Idaho), this eastern Pacific cruise served as a site survey for ODP Leg 199. The objectives were to investigate detailed climatic and oceanographic conditions during the Paleogene period, to examine fossils in the sediments to evaluate oceanographic conditions and constrain models of the Eocene hot house conditions of worldwide warmth. The seismic reflection and sediment core data collected during this cruise were to be used to guide selection of specific sites for future deep ocean drilling. Funded by NSF grants OCE96-34141 and OCE96-33802.
