Seismic:WideAngle:OBH
Ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) data on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, acquired during the R/V Maurice Ewing survey EW9704 (1997)
This 1997 Ewing expedition to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, part of the Nobel at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge Seismic Experiment, collected ocean bottom seismic refraction and single-channel seismic data. The purpose was to measure the reflected and refracted arrivals of seismic energy from sections of the mid-ocean ridge spreading center which have known, previously sampled, rock compositions. These data could then be used to identify and map rock types and test existing models for subsurface ridge structure, possibly providing a 3-dimensional map of the structure of a slow-spreading mid-ocean ridge. Funded by NSF grant OCE96-33114.
