Shallow Upper Crustal Seismic Velocity Structure of Santorini Volcano, Greece (Heath, et. al., 2019)
This data set, presented in Heath et al. (2019), consists of a P-wave tomographic model of Santorini Volcano and the surrounding region including the Christiana and Anydros Basins as well as the Kolumbo Volcanic Field. The model was derived from dense active-source data with airguns fired from the ship to an array of ocean-bottom and land seismometers during the PROTEUS experiment on cruise MGL1521 (chief scientist Emilie Hooft). Using standard isotropic tomographic techniques, the model was created by inverting ~200,000 P-wave travel-times of rays that sampled the upper crust. The data files are in NetCDF format (suitable for importing to GMT scripts), gridded at approximately 100m resolution. The “Vel-*.grd” files consists of lat/lon and dv values, where the latter measures the deviation of seismic velocity from a depth dependent velocity average. We present velocities at depths of 0, 1, 2, and 3 km which are conformal to the bathymetry/topography. Files labeled with “Velwithdws” consist of lat/lon/dv values where regions of poor ray coverage and poor resolution are masked out. This data set was generated as part of the Plumbing Reservoirs Of The Earth Under Santorini (PROTEUS) experiment, with funding provided by NSF grant OCE14-59794 and Leverhulme Grant RPG-2015-363.
