Title:
Interpreted outlines (shapefile format) of voluminous lobate flows for the distal rift zones of Axial Seamount, version: December, 2025
Abstract:
These shapefiles of lobate flow outlines were constructed with ArcGIS upon grids of 1-m lateral resolution processed swath bathymetry data compiled from data collected on surveys of the distal North and South Rift Zones at Axial Seamount between 2011 and 2021 by the MBARI Mapping AUVs (MAUV1 and MAUV2). The shapefiles are in UTM zone 9N projection and are published in Paduan et al., 2026, Voluminous Inflated Lobate Flows on the Distal Rift Zones of Axial Seamount, Juan de Fuca Spreading Ridge, in Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. The MBARI AUV bathymetry coverage of the distal rift zones is not likely to change in the near future, but this data set should still be considered a work in progress. The navigation model underlying this version of bathymetry was generated in 2025 using the MB-System mbnavadjust program, with which the AUV surveys are tied together. Funding for the work was provided through annual grants to MBARI from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
