Abstract:
This "AxialDistalRiftZones" data set is compiled from data collected on surveys of the distal North and South Rift Zones at Axial Seamount between 2011 and 2021 by the MBARI Mapping AUVs (MAUV1 and MAUV2). This data set is as published in Paduan et al., 2026, Voluminous Inflated Lobate Flows on the Distal Rift Zones of Axial Seamount, Juan de Fuca Spreading Ridge, in Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. The MBARI AUV bathymetry coverage of the distal rift zones is not likely to change in the near future, but this data set should still be considered a work in progress. The navigation model underlying this version of bathymetry was generated in 2025 using the MB-System mbnavadjust program, with which the AUV surveys are tied together. The data have 1-m horizontal resolution, and the grids were made with square cells for use with GIS. These grid rasters are in ESRI ASCII format with the geographic WGS-1984 coordinate system. Funding for the work was provided through annual grants to MBARI from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
