Title:
Processed single-channel seismic profiles acquired in 2001 along the Lake Malawi (Nyasa) Rift
Abstract:
There are 25 Single-Channel Seismic Lines that are confined to the North, Central, and South Basins of the Lake Malawi Rift. These were collected in 2001 as part of the Lake Malawi Sub-Lacustrine Fan Study with support from Syracuse University industrial associates. All files are in SEG-Y format, with coordinate reference system and navigation information in the headers. Record length is three seconds two-way travel time, 0.5 ms sample rate. Profiles are generally oriented north-south (strike), or east-west (dip). Data were acquired aboard R/V Ndunduma, an 18-meter-long vessel of opportunity operated by the Malawi Department of Fisheries. Chief Scientist was Christopher A. Scholz. Line spacing is variable. Source was a 10 in3 and 20 in3 Bolt 600B airgun — 2000 psi. Receiver was a S.I.G. 10 m 16 hydrophone element streamer. Acquisition was via a Elics-Delph 2 at a 0.5 ms sample rate. Navigational data was acquired with Continuous Autonomous GPS. Data bandwidth is 50-450 Hz. General processing at Syracuse University was performed using Promax software with the following workflow: 3–trace horizontal stack, band-pass filter (80–500 Hz), 100 ms AGC, trace balancing.
