Title:
Heat flow, thermal gradient and thermal conductivity data for Pescadero Basin (cruise FK181031, 2018)
Abstract:
This data set consists of thermal gradients and thermal conductivity to compute the heat flux in Pescadero Basin, Gulf of California. The data have been processed to convert from resistance to temperature using calibrations for each thermistor. Heat flow was estimated by combining the thermal gradient and thermal conductivity using the Bullard method. The data set was collected using a custom 1-m long ROV heat flow probe from Andrew Fisher, UC Santa Cruz. The heat flow probe was deployed on dives S0193-S0199 with ROV SuBastian during Falkor cruise FK181031, operated by Schmidt Oceanographic Institute. Each deployment of the heat flow probe lasted approximately 15 minutes. The data file is in tab-separated ASCII text format with column headers and units; the header block gives explanatory notes. The data set was generated as part of a heat flow study in the Gulf of California and was supported by National Science Foundation grant OCE16-34536 to Rob Harris.
