Title:
Multi-channel field seismic data at the Sumatran Trench, acquired by the R/V Sonne in 2008 as part of the Collaborative Research Understanding Sumatran Tectonics (CRUST) project
Abstract:
This 2008 R/V Sonne expedition to the area of the December 2004 Sumatran earthquake was an collaborative effort between UK, Indonesian, and U.S. scientists. The purpose was to test the hypothesis that landward-vergent (as opposed to seaward-vergent) thrusting promotes rupture to the deformation front, and consequent possibility for tsunamigenic earthquakes. Funded by NSF Grant OCE-0623165, Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi, Natural Environment Research Council, UK, and Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia.
