Gravity Free-Air Anomaly data (ASCII format), Emperor Seamounts and Hess Rise, R/V Falkor cruise FK190726 (2019, investigators Les Watling, John R. Smith, Fabio C. Tontini)
Abstract:
These processed free-air gravity anomaly data files were derived from raw gravity data acquired using a portable Lacoste & Romberg gravimeter with an Ultrasys control system. The data set consists of CSV line-data files of gravity anomalies at a 1 Hz sample rate and processed using POS-MV navigation. Each file contains column headers. The gravity values can be re-calculated or filtered using different techniques: A corresponding PDF document file contains the equations to re-calculate gravity. The gravity surveys were conducted at the Hess Rise and Emperor Seamounts in the North Central Pacific Ocean during R/V Falkor cruise FK190726. The cruise was primarily a biogeographic study using ROV SuBastian and the surveys were designed for ROV dive site selection and multibeam gap filling when time allowed. The data set is divided into 10 sites (places where a dedicated survey with nearly parallel lines was conducted) and 8 transits between these sites. Transits are sequentially ordered starting from Honolulu, Hawai‘i to Hess Rise and on to the Emperor Seamounts with a return transit to Honolulu along the northern side of the Northwest Hawaiian Ridge. The Emperor Seamounts surveyed include Suiko, Yomei, Godaigo, Nintoku, Jingu, Annei, and Koko (from north to south, respectively). The data files are in ASCII format and were generated as part of a project called Deep Coral Diversity at Emperor Seamount Chain 2019. Funding was provided by the Schmidt Ocean Institute (Ship, ROV, gravimeter) to Les Watling, PI, and from NOAA OER grant number NA16OAR0110192 (Science support) to John R. Smith, PI.
