Abstract:
This dataset includes GIS products overlaying high-resolution photo mosaics and digitized geochemical measurements, for 24 sites at deep-sea hydrothermal vents within the Tongan region of the Lau Basin, along the North and Central Eastern Lau Spreading Center and the Valu Fa Ridge. Data was collected with a Canon EOS Rebel T5i Digital Camera, High-Temperature Probe, and an In Situ Mass Spectrometer on ROV ROPOS during R/V Falkor expedition FK160407 conducted in 2016 (Chief Scientist: Dr. Charles Fisher, Investigators: Dr. Cherisse Du Preez, Dr. Charles Fisher, Dr. Daniel Hoer, Dr. Vicki Ferrini, Dr. Peter Girguis, Dr. Roxanne Beinart). These data files are of ESRI GeoDataBase, Shapefile, and GeoTIFF format and include Fluid Chemistry, Photomosaic, and Temperature data that were processed after acquisition. Data were acquired as part of the project(s): Collaborative Research: Ecosystem dynamics of Western Pacific hydrothermal vent communities associated with polymetallic sulfide deposits. Ship time was provided by Schmidt Ocean Institute and additional funding was provided by NSF Award(s): OCE15-37807. This data was cited by Du Preez and Fisher, 2018.
