Antarctic Bathymetry, MARGINS, Ridge 2000, Seismic Reflection

May 2008

Multibeam data from NBP0304(Chief Scientist Cande, NZ-Dutch Harbor, Alaska), NBP0408 (Chief Scientist S. Jacobs, ANSLOPE Leg_III), NBP0602 (J.Stock, McMurdo - Punta Arenas, Chile) and NBP9504 (seabeam test, off New Zealand) were recently added to the South Polar GeoMapApp tileset.

April 2008

Composite bathymetric grid of the Marianas western insular margin added to database (Chief Scientist Gardner) and to the MARGINS IBM Focus Site in GeoMapApp.

In the Ridge 2000 EPR:9N area, for cruise VNTR03WT (Nov 1989, Chief Scientist Haymon), dredge stations and rock samples information now available. Deeply-towed Argo camera images and CTD data can also be downloaded.

Dredge and rock sample information for the Central Indian Ridge cruise KNOX11RR (Nov 2007, Chief Scientists Fueri and Hilton) has been added. Over the Macquarie Ridge, cruise information for Rig Seismic leg RS9401 (1994, Chief Scientist Coffin) as well as HMR-1 phase bathymetry grids and sidescan images and processed HMR-1 swath data files are now available.

The Mercator GeoMapApp view was updated with multibeam data for: NBP0304C (Cande; Hawaii-New Zealand), NBP0305A (Smith, New Zealand - McMurdo), and NBP0506 (McPhee, Maud Rise).

March 2008

Under the MARGINS IBM Focus Site, geochemical data spreadsheets for Mark Reagan's Mariana Forearc volcanic sampling work were added. Through links to JAMSTEC, swath bathymetry and magnetics data files can now be downloaded for the joint US-Japan magnetotelluric cruise KR05-17 (Dec 2005, Chief Scientist Seama). For the same magnetotelluric project, MT instrument recovery information for cruise KR07-16 (Nov 2007, Chief Scientist Seama) added. Basic cruise entries made for Marianas western insular margin UNCLOS Law of the Sea bathymetry survey cruises BW06-1 and BW07-1 (Oct 2006 and Nov 2007, Chief Scientist Gardner). For the PNG Focus Site cruises VANC24MV, VANC25MV (Mar 2004, Chief Scientist Droxler) and VANC26MV (Apr 2004, Chief Scientist Peterson), SeaBeam swath bathymetry and sidescan files, XBT sound velocity files and ADCP data now available. Knudsen 3.5 kHz sub-bottom profiler data added for VANC22MV and VANC23MV (Feb-Mar 2004, Chief Scientist Driscoll). For New Zealand Waipaoa cruise KM0502 (Jan 2005, Chief Scientist Kuehl), CHIRP sub-bottom profile data and navigation can be downloaded. In the MARGINS Gulf of California area, basic entry created for seismic cruise UL0608 (Sept 2006, Chief Scientist Lonsdale).

Attended the MARGINS S2S initiative education mini-lessons workshop, during the Ocean Sciences meeting in Orlando, Florida.

February 2008

For MARGINS New Zealand Waipaoa cruise KM0503 (Feb 2005, Chief Scientists Alexander and Walsh), EM1002 and EM120 swath bathymetry, CTD stations and data files, and ADCP data are now available. Also for this cruise, bathymetry 4m grids and sidescan 15m grids added to GeoMapApp MARGINS Focus Site.

In the Antarctic, the multibeam data from NBP0305A, McMurdo - New Zealand, Chief Scientist Walker Smith, was added to the GeoMapApp bathymetry tiles.

MAPR data added for Arctic mid-ocean ridge cruise HLY-01-02 (Aug/Sep 2001, Chief Scientists Michael, Dick, Langmuir).

GeoMapApp version 1.6.4 released. Pan function added; ability to import and save grids in GMT v3 and v4 NetCDF formats. Profiles can be taken across all imported and high-resolution grids. Interface for Multi-Channel Seismics and for downloading swath ping files improved.

Attended the SERC workshop Teaching with New Geoscience Tools: Visualizations, Models, and Online Data at UMass Amherst, highlighting the MARGINS database and GeoMapApp.

January 2008

In the MARGINS New Zealand Waipaoa area, bathymetric and sidescan EM120 and EM1002 grids and images added for cruise KM0503 (Feb 2005, Chief Scientists Alexander and Walsh). Bathymetry 50m and 20m grids added to GeoMapApp MARGINS Focus Site. For the IBM area, raw and processed Jason 2 navigation files for TN154 (Chief Scientist Fryer) have been added. In GeoMapApp, links to International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC) continental and oceanic heat flow data added for each MARGINS Focus Site.

For the Ridge 2000 program, navigation files for ROV Tiburon dives conducted at JdF Axial Ridge Volcano during WF2983 (Sep 2004, Chief Scientists Gill and Stakesl) are now available. Raw and processed EM300 multibeam data is now available from TN177B (Mar 2005, Chief Scientists Cowen and Baker). Raw and processed CTD and MAPR data now available. For the EPR site, basic cruise data for AT15-26 (Chief Scientist: Lauren Mullineaux) including Atlantis navigation, raw and processed ADCP, and swath bathymetry files as well as processed Alvin navigation and sonar data are now available. Contributed by Vicki Ferrini, final ultra-high resolution bathymetric data and grids for six vent fields at the Lau site were added (TUIM05MV, Chief Scientist: Meg Tivey). Renav positions were added for instruments deployed at the Lau site during MGLN07MV (Chief Scientist: Chuck Fisher).

December 2007

The multibeam data from Antarctic cruises NBP0506, contributed by Miles McPhee, which included data in the vicinity of the Maud Rise, and data from NBP0402 (Visbeck, McMurdo - New Zealand) has been added to the GeoMapApp bathymetry tiles.

In the MARGINS PNG Focus Site for three of the PNG cruises - VANC24MV, VANC25MV (Mar 2004, Chief Scientist Droxler) and VANC26MV (Apr 2004, Chief Scientist Peterson), information on dredge rock samples, plankton net biological samples, CTD stations and sediment cores from box/gravity/multi/jumbo piston cores now available.

For the Ridge 2000 JdF site, ABE vehicle data (eH,Temperature, Optical Backscatter, Magnetics, and Navigation) are now available from AT11-14 (Chief Scientist: Russ McDuff).

November 2007

For the MARGINS IBM Focus Site, basic cruise entries and magnetotelluric station deployment and recovery information received from Evans for KR05-17 (Dec 2005, Chief Scientist Seama) and KR06-12 (Sep 2006, Chief Scientist Seama). For Plank's IBM work geochemical data spreadsheet and references added. For Central America cruises DANA01RR and DANA02RR (2003, Chief Scientist Lonsdale), EM120 swath bathymetry, gravity/magnetics, XBT and meteorological data now available. Rock sample location information and geochemical data spreadsheet for Guatemala program (Walker) added. For the Gulf of California Focus Site, EM120 swath bathymetry, gravity/magnetics, XBT and meteorological data can be downloaded for DANA07RR and DANA08RR (2004, Chief Scientist Lonsdale). Ship track navigation file added for OBS recovery cruise SCOOBA2NH (Oct 2006, Chief Scientist Gaherty).

Under the Ridge 2000 program, photo mosaics from AT11-10 submitted by Tim Shank. Revised photo mosaics from Lucky Strike (KN145-19) contributed by Javier Escartin. Basic cruise metadata also been added for this cruise. CTD and MAPR data made available by Baker/Resing for Lau Basin cruise KM0410 (Chief Scientist Martinez).

GeoMapApp bathymetry tiles were updated by the addition of multibeam data from cruises A112-24 (Hey, Puntarena - Acapulo) and EW0108 (Taylor, Gulf of Corinth, Greece).

In the Antarctic data synthesis project, many data files added. At the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, additional multibeam swath data as well as bathymetric grids and images included for Eugene Domack's cruise NBP0107 (Dec 2001 - Jan 2002). Gravity/magnetics data, sound velocity profiles, JGOFS and ADCP data, and bathymetric grids and images, added for Ross Sea cruise NBP0402 (Feb-Apr 2004, Chief Scientist Martin Visbeck). For southwest Pacific cruises NBP0403 (Apr-May 2004, principal investigators Cande/Stock) now available are raw and processed multibeam swath files, bathymetric grids and images, CTD, sound velocity, JGOFS and ADCP data, gravity and magnetics files. For the more recent southwest Pacific cruise NBP0607A (Aug-Sep 2006, Chief Scientist Marcel Croon), raw and processed multibeam swath files, sound velocity, JGOFS and ADCP data, gravity and magnetics files added to database. Single-channel seismic reflection and sub-bottom data available for SHALDRIL cruise NBP0602A (Feb-Apr 2006, Chief Scientist John Anderson), along with raw and processed multibeam bathymetry swath files, grids and images, and ADCP and sound velocity data. Single-channel seismics data, ADCP and gravity/magnetics data added for West Antarctic cruise NBP9902 (Feb-Mar 1999, Chief Scientist John Anderson). Raw and processed multibeam data and ADCP added for sea trials leg NBP0607C (Oct 2006, Chief Scientist Joann Stock). Basic database entries created for transit/maintenance legs NBP0704, NBP0705, NBP0706, NBP0707, NBP0708 and Gould leg LMG0707.

Ship track navigation file added for Atlantic cruise OC437-7 (Chief Scientist de Menocal).
